Winston-Salem Kicks Off the Fall with Clouds and Community Spirit

As the sun sets on summer, Winston-Salem is gearing up for a dynamic season ahead! With cloudy skies and the occasional shower, this week promises a cozy atmosphere with temperatures hovering around 79°F during the day, cooling down to a pleasant 66°F at night. While wind speeds will be brisk, ranging from 10 to 20 mph, it seems the weather is just as excited about the new month as we are!

Truliant Foundation Brings Hope to Local Nonprofits

In recent news, the Truliant Foundation has found a way to sprinkle a little sunshine into our community by announcing a grant of $45,000 to support 30 nonprofit organizations across various member communities. This initiative, now in its 16th year, aims to enhance outreach efforts essential for community support.

Among the beneficiaries of this mini-grant program are two deserving organizations from the Upstate South Carolina region: First Impression of SC and LiveWell Greenville. Both organizations will use the funds to deliver crucial services to the community and support families in need.

Supporting Food Security

First Impression of SC, located in Greenville, will allocate the funds to stock their Stella Hill McBee Cook Community Cupboard. This food pantry is a lifeline for many families facing food insecurity in Greenville County. They will use the grant to purchase essential items, including perishable and nonperishable food, as well as gas cards and bus passes to help families access the pantry more easily.

Meanwhile, LiveWell Greenville plans to use their portion of the grant to assist families with infants. Specifically, they will purchase infant formula for the county’s Formula Bank. This initiative provides vital resources to low-income families with babies aged 0-6 months waiting for enrollment in the WIC program. It’s a touching way to ensure that no baby goes without the necessary nutrition.

Building a Stronger Community

The Mini Grants program not only provides financial support but also strengthens the bond between Truliant Federal Credit Union and our community. According to Atticus Simpson, the executive director of the Truliant Foundation, “This program gives us an opportunity to build relationships and contribute to our communities by providing small but meaningful support.” The foundation is dedicated to helping organizations that may lack significant funding but play a vital role in assisting our most vulnerable populations.

Since its inception in 2008, the Community Mini Grant program has awarded nearly $400,000 to over 420 nonprofit organizations. This impressive endeavor demonstrates the foundation’s commitment to lifting those around us and making a genuine difference in our neighborhoods.

How to Get Involved

If you’re part of a nonprofit that aligns with community development, economic mobility, youth and education, or financial wellness initiatives and you are interested in applying for future grants, keep an eye on the Truliant Foundation’s annual proposal process. Qualifying organizations must have tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and should have been in existence for at least three years.
