Williamston Town Council recently approved a PARD grant resolution, held the first reading on the sale of property to a developer, and recognized local barber Jack Turner, who operated his barbershop in the West Main shopping center for 60 years before retiring.

Roberta Hamby, Executive Director of Envision Williamston, reported on an event held in collaboration with the Freedom Celebration. The event saw a large turnout with participants from Williamston, Pelzer, West Pelzer, and various other locations.

Upcoming events in Williamston include a shark week contest, Bookbag Giveaway with Williamston Police Department, a Scavenger Hunt, and a Bingo event sponsored by Piedmont Post Acute. An End of Summer concert featuring the Encore Band is also planned.

Debbie Chapman provided an update on the Freedom Celebration, which was a success with a golf cart parade, food and beverage vendors, a concert, and fireworks show. The event generated sponsorships and food truck sales, contributing to the town’s revenue.

The Williamston Police Department was acknowledged for ensuring safety during events, and police officers were recognized for their dedication. The Town Council approved a resolution accepting a $20,000 PARD grant for improvements at Brookdale Park.

Council also approved the sale of property to Scout Realty Group, LLC for the development of approximately 60 homes. The agreement included provisions for green space in the development.

Furthermore, there was discussion about a $750,000 earmark from the State budget for park improvements, primarily focused on new playground equipment in Mineral Spring Park. Representative Anne Thayer was thanked for her assistance in securing this funding.
