Waynesville is abuzz with excitement as the local chapter of Together Women Rise marks an impressive 13 years of community engagement and empowerment at their monthly gathering. This nonprofit organization, dedicated to achieving global gender equality, brings women together to learn, give, and build a supportive community, all the while working toward a world where every woman and girl has the opportunity to live freely and pursue her dreams.
Together Women Rise started its journey in 2003 in Greenville, North Carolina, and has since blossomed to include over 450 chapters across the United States. The Waynesville chapter, established in 2011, has continued this legacy by providing a space where women can connect and advocate for gender equality. Under the enthusiastic leadership of Dodi Christiano and Lauri Kemmerling, this chapter invites new members to join in on its mission to uplift women and girls both locally and globally.
The Waynesville chapter holds its regular meetings on the first Thursday of every month from noon to 2 p.m. These gatherings are not just about business; they are a chance for members to socialize with a purpose. Each meeting features a delicious potluck lunch where attendees bring a dish to share. While enjoying the food, members watch a video highlighting the grantee of the month, focusing on projects that directly support women and girls in need.
The meetings are hosted in the homes of members on a rotating basis, creating a cozy and intimate environment where everyone feels welcome. This month, the chapter is celebrating its anniversary, and there’s no doubt that the atmosphere will be filled with joy, laughter, and camaraderie.
Women from all walks of life are encouraged to join and be part of this empowering community. Together Women Rise emphasizes the importance of collective action, showing how just a small group of dedicated individuals can make a huge impact in the fight against global gender inequality.
Not only does being a member keep you informed about the challenges women face worldwide, but it also offers the chance to contribute through fundraising and volunteering. Every contribution, big or small, goes toward supporting grassroots organizations in low-income countries that are making strides in providing the necessary resources, education, and opportunities for women and girls.
If you’re in the Waynesville area and want to make a difference, why not stop by the next meeting? New members are always welcomed with open arms! Whether you’re looking to volunteer, donate, or simply learn more about how you can support gender equality, this chapter is a wonderful place to start. The story of Together Women Rise is a testament to the strength and resilience when women come together for a common cause. As the Waynesville Chapter celebrates this impressive milestone, they continue to inspire and encourage others to become part of this global movement. Because, in the end, the journey to gender equality is not just a woman’s issue; it is a community issue, and every bit of support counts.
