Greenville Celebrates Upstate International Month in March
For the month of March, Greenville is embracing its diverse community with Upstate International Month. This celebration is designed to connect the community to events that showcase the rich cultural diversity of the region.
Connecting Communities
Tracie Frese, the executive director of Upstate International, explained the origin of Upstate International Month, which began around 11 years ago. The organization was initially focused on supporting incoming internationals and their families who were moving to the area for business opportunities. Over time, the focus shifted to engaging the local community with the growing global diversity in Greenville.
We want to turn on people’s curiosity and their engagement with these global cultures. Upstate International Month serves as a way to welcome, support, celebrate, and educate our communities about the rich cultural heritage and connections available in the Upstate.
Events and Activities
While Upstate International directly organizes only a few events during the month, they also publicize other international events taking place in the community. From bilingual story times to coffee cuppings and symphony performances, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
This year, Upstate International has partnered with the Whova app to make it easier for attendees to plan their month of activities. The app allows users to view the full schedule of events, register for specific activities, create meetups with other attendees, and more.
Through the app, attendees can register for events, connect with hosts for more information, and stay updated on the growing list of activities happening throughout the month.
Year-Round Opportunities
While Upstate International Month highlights the diversity in March, the organization also offers language classes and various programs throughout the year. Membership is required for certain activities like language classes, but most of the events are open to the public.
Becoming a member not only grants access to specific programs but also serves as a way to support our mission of global engagement. We welcome everyone to join us in celebrating and exploring the cultural diversity of the Upstate.
