Upstate High School Sports: Top Performers for April 15-21

Monday

Baseball

Miles Barbrey of Fountain Inn had an outstanding performance, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and two walks in an 11-8 victory against Southside Christian. George Massingill from Southside Christian went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored in a close game against Fountain Inn. Carson Scott of Woodmont pitched a remarkable game, allowing only four hits and one earned run over seven innings in a 5-3 win against T.L. Hanna in eight innings. Jack Stepp of Wade Hampton excelled both at the plate and on the mound, going 2-for-3 with a double and pitching six innings with nine strikeouts in a 4-2 victory over Laurens.

Boys Golf

Peyton Lawter from Chesnee claimed medalist honors at the Spartanburg County tournament with a score of 68, while Hugh Lemonds of Spartanburg helped his team win the team title with a score of 73. Bennett Scaletta of T.L. Hanna broke his own school record with an impressive 8-under-par 64 at the Anderson Brothers Invitational, surpassing his previous record of 6-under 66 from last year’s State Championship win. Emmett Walsh of Spartanburg also contributed to his team’s success with a solid round of 73.

Tuesday

Baseball

Jake Short of Byrnes pitched four shutout innings with five strikeouts in a 7-3 victory against J.L. Mann. Aaron Tolbert from Easley had a big game, homering and driving in four runs in an 8-4 win over Greenville.

Girls Lacrosse

Carlie Balck of Greenville scored five goals and added an assist in a narrow 17-16 loss to Wade Hampton in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs. Isabella Bright from Riverside contributed with four goals and two assists in a dominant 20-4 win against Aiken. Sara Evans of Spartanburg also had a standout performance with three goals and an assist in a 19-4 victory over Dorman.

Softball

Taylor Beak of Pendleton shined with a home run and three RBIs in a 12-1 win over Walhalla, while Laney Jennings of Pendleton pitched a solid game, allowing only an unearned run and striking out six in six innings against Walhalla. Halle Tomkins of Palmetto pitched a five-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts in an 11-1 victory over Fountain Inn.

Wednesday

Baseball

In Wednesday’s action, Walker Cox of Easley tossed a gem, pitching all six innings in an 11-1 win against Greenville, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out five. George Massingill of Southside Christian also had a strong outing, pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts in a 6-2 win against St. Joseph’s.

Boys Lacrosse

In the boys lacrosse playoffs, Hudson Cremmins from J.L. Mann had three assists and a goal in a 13-6 win over Dorman. Capers Gross of Greenville stood out with five assists and two goals in a 19-4 victory against St. Joseph’s.

Softball

Bethany Brown of Fountain Inn made an impact with a double, a triple, three RBIs, and two runs scored in a game against Laurens, while Natalie Regan of Riverside had an impressive three-game stretch with a combined 7-for-8 performance, including two home runs, a triple, a double, five runs scored, five RBIs, and three stolen bases.
