Vote for Upstate Boys Athlete of the Week

Greenville, SC – March 18, 2024

Here are the finalists for Upstate high school boys athlete of the week from March 11-17. They are listed in alphabetical order. Coaches are encouraged to nominate top performers by email or direct message on X, formerly Twitter, to @toddshanesySHJ.

Finalists

  • Thomas Barnhardt, Greenville: Barnhardt scored the winning goal with 22 seconds left as Greenville beat T.L. Hanna, 8-7, in boys lacrosse.
  • Cole Bellinger, Greer: Bellinger pitched a complete-game four-hitter with eight strikeouts in a 3-0 baseball win against Wade Hampton.
  • Matt Cody, Blacksburg: Cody pitched a five-inning no-hitter and hit for the cycle (single, double, triple, homer) in a baseball win against Greenville Tech.
  • Blane Jordan, Powdersville: Jordan pitched a complete game and struck out seven in a 4-1 baseball win against Fountain Inn.
  • Brody Linker, Crescent: Linker pitched a complete game in a 3-1 baseball win against Seneca and struck out six while allowing four hits.

Finalists for Girls Athlete of the Week

For the girls’ athlete of the week, the following individuals showcased exceptional performances:

  • Ian McCrary, Daniel: McCrary struck out 11 in six innings of a 7-1 baseball win against Walhalla. He allowed four hits and one walk.
  • Lane McGaha, Belton-Honea Path: McGaha hit a grand slam and pitched six innings in an 8-1 baseball win against T.L. Hanna.
  • Kaleb Owens, Easley: Owens struck out 12 batters and allowed just one hit in an 11-0 baseball win against Pickens.
  • Carson Roberts, Crescent: Roberts pitched a complete-game shutout and struck out six in an 11-0 baseball win against Pickens.
  • Miller Steele, Wren: Steele scored both goals in a 2-1 double-overtime boys soccer win against Laurens. He also had two goals in a 3-2 win against Indian Springs (Ala.).
