Exciting Changes Ahead for Travelers Rest!
Travelers Rest, the charming city nestled at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, recently held a City Council meeting that brought some fantastic news for the local community. On December 19th, the council members rolled up their sleeves and tackled a couple of big topics that are sure to impact the area significantly.
Parks Galore: A Treat for Residents!
One of the most thrilling developments was the unanimous approval of a resolution to transfer three county parks to city ownership. Yes, you heard that right! Greenville County is proposing to hand over the care of Trailblazer Park, Poinsett Park, and Gateway Park to the city of Travelers Rest, and guess what? It’s happening at no cost!
This is a win-win situation for everyone involved! The transfer comes with an agreement between the county and the city, ensuring that for the first two years, the parks will receive proper maintenance to make sure everything goes smoothly. That means visitors can continue to enjoy these lovely green spots without interruption.
But hold on, there’s a tiny bit more paperwork to deal with. Poinsett Park will need a vote for annexation in January, so fingers crossed that everything sails through and the residents can enjoy their parks without a hitch!
Honoring a Local Hero
The citizens of Travelers Rest will surely feel the impact of his legacy for many years to come. Already, the new fire chief, James E. “Mac” McMakin, is stepping into the role enthusiastically after his appointment last month. Here’s hoping that Chief McMakin carries on the proud traditions that have kept the community safe!
Small Tweaks to the Budget
Moving on to some matters of finance, the City Council also tackled a minor amendment to the fiscal year 2025 city budget. With a unanimous vote on the second reading, the council corrected a small typo that resulted in a budget decrease of roughly $34,000. While it may seem like a small detail, it’s the kind of responsible management that keeps the city running smoothly.
The Spirit of Community Is Alive
The meeting wasn’t just about policies and resolutions; it was also an opportunity for residents to see their government at work and to feel the spirit of community. From revitalizing parks to honoring local champions, City Council members demonstrated their commitment to the welfare of Travelers Rest residents.
As we look ahead to the transition of the parks and the celebrations for Chief Robertson, it’s clear that the city is moving in a positive direction. Stay tuned, Travelers Rest; exciting times are just around the corner!
