Acoustic Daredevils Trampled By Turtles Hit the Peace Center in Greenville

The vibrant city of Greenville is set to host the acclaimed Duluth, Minnesota sextet known as Trampled By Turtles at the prestigious Peace Center on May 29. The band’s unique blend of bluegrass, Americana, and folk music promises an unforgettable evening for music enthusiasts in the Upstate region.

Ambiguous Genre

Trampled By Turtles doesn’t fit neatly into a single genre category. While they may appear to be a bluegrass band at first glance with their banjo, mandolin, and fiddle, the band’s sound transcends traditional labels. In addition to the classic acoustic lineup, they boast a full-time cellist, adding a layer of richness to their music.

Ryan Young, the band’s fiddle player, admits that defining their style is a challenge. “We’re definitely not a bluegrass band, although we kind of look like one if you’re just looking at what instruments we play,” says Young. “It’s a mix between bluegrass and folk, but then there’s a lot of punk rock in there and some speed metal. There are a lot of other influences in there, too.”

Fast-paced Performances

Despite their diverse influences, Trampled By Turtles is known for their high-energy and tight performances. While some band members possess impressive technical skills, the focus remains on creating memorable songs rather than flashy solos. Young emphasizes the band’s commitment to crafting quality music that resonates with their loyal fanbase.

Formed over 20 years ago, Trampled By Turtles has released 10 albums, with their latest offering, “Alpenglow,” reaching the number one spot on the Billboard bluegrass chart in 2022. The band’s dedication to songwriting and musicianship has earned them a dedicated following that appreciates their unique sound.

Upcoming Performance

Trampled By Turtles will take the stage at the Peace Center alongside Benjamin Tod & Lost Dog Street Band on May 29 at 7 p.m. Fans can expect an evening of dynamic music that defies genre boundaries and showcases the band’s exceptional talent and creativity.

For those eager to experience Trampled By Turtles live in concert, tickets ranging from $45 to $75 are available through the Peace Center website, offering an opportunity to witness this acoustic daredevil band in action.
