Time to Choose: Greenville’s Change in Assignment School Choice Window Opens Soon

Time to Choose: The Change in Assignment School Choice Window Opens Soon in Greenville!

Are you a parent in Greenville? If so, we have some exciting news for you! It’s time to mark your calendars because the Change in Assignment (CIA) School Choice Lottery Window is just around the corner! From November 21 through December 6, 2024, you’ll have the chance to submit a choice request form for your child’s education.

What’s the CIA School Choice Lottery?

This is a fantastic opportunity for parents to apply for slots at schools other than their assigned based on where they live. Whether you’ve got your sights set on a particular school because of its stellar reputation, programs, or perhaps your child is eager to join their friends, this is the time to act!

How Does It Work?

During the CIA Lottery Window, you can submit a request for up to three schools, with one being your absolute number one choice. Just remember to pick up the choice request form at your number one choice school—these forms are not available online, so don’t forget!

Just a quick note: the order in which you submit these forms during the lottery window doesn’t impact selection. This means that every parent gets a fair shot at securing a spot for their child!

Kindergarten Parents, Listen Up!

Are you a parent of a 2025-26 kindergarten student? It’s essential to apply during the CIA Lottery Window. Some might think it’s best to wait until kindergarten registration, but that’s a no-go! Plus, if you already have a child at the school, applying now is the best way to ensure a smooth transition for your little one.

The Lottery Process

After the forms are submitted, a lottery will take place, and the results will be available no later than February 12, 2025. You can check these results on the GCS website. It’s important to note that the results will list applicants in numerical order by grade for each school. However, it doesn’t determine assignment or approval just yet.

Make sure to keep your CIA choice form number handy and consider snapping a picture of it! This will help you avoid any mix-up or loss of your important number when checking lottery results.

What Happens Next?

Following the lottery, the availability of space by grade level will dictate the assignments for each school. You’ll receive a notification letter by March 31, 2025, letting you know whether your child received a slot at their requested school or if they’ve been placed on a waitlist. If waitlisted, you’ll even get your waitlist number.

Don’t Forget the Magnet Schools!

Just so you’re fully informed, this entire process does not cover magnet schools. If you’re interested in one, make sure to reach out directly to that school for details!

Need More Info?

For more detailed information, you can visit the Greenville County Schools website at www.greenville.k12.sc.us. Make sure you stay informed so you don’t miss out on this fabulous opportunity for your child’s educational journey!

Remember, the clock is ticking! Get those forms ready and take part in this wonderful chance to shape your child’s schooling experience. Happy school hunting, Greenville parents!
