Tigerville Unveils New Entrepreneurial Center at North Greenville University

TIGERVILLE — North Greenville University has officially opened the doors to its new Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center, a major development aimed at fostering business and entrepreneurship among its students. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on April 12, 2024, marking the completion of a $10.4 million renovation project of the historic Donnan Administration Building.

Constructed from the Ground Up

The project took several years, beginning in 2021, when the original structure was stripped down to its steel and concrete. The new center features a modern design with updated classrooms, faculty offices, and collaboration spaces that aim to enhance the educational environment.

University president Gene Fant Jr. described the center as a place that combines functionality and aesthetic appeal. “There’s 180-degree mountain views on each side of the building. It’s a beautiful place,” he told reporters. The center not only serves as a learning space but also reflects the values of excellence that the university stands for.

A Focus on Business and Entrepreneurship

Space within the center has been designated specifically for the university’s business and entrepreneurship college, which currently serves over 500 of the school’s 2,200 students. This expansion underscores the university’s commitment to providing top-notch facilities that foster innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among its students.

Thoughtful Design and Sustainability

A notable aspect of the new center is its commitment to sustainability. The furniture inside the building is made from wood sourced from trees on campus, contributing to a greener initiative. Additionally, the center retains a historic 50-year-old table that has been a significant part of trustee meetings, illustrating a blend of new and traditional values.

Support from the Robert W. Plaster Foundation

The Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center has been made possible thanks to the support of the Robert W. Plaster Foundation, which advocates for free enterprise values and funds similar projects at universities across the United States. This ongoing partnership is aimed at promoting education that aligns with entrepreneurial endeavors.

More Than Just a Building

Since opening a few months ago, the center has already become a hallmark for the university. The building not only serves academic purposes but also becomes a community space where students can connect and collaborate on various projects and ideas. The panoramic views are just one of the many features that make it an attractive place for learning.

Community Impact

The new center is expected to have a positive impact on the surrounding community as well, by fostering more opportunities for networking and collaboration with local businesses. University officials believe that as students gain more skills and experience through enhanced programs, they will contribute significantly to the economy of Tigerville and beyond.

Conclusion

As North Greenville University rolls out this ambitious new project, the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center stands as a testament to the university’s growth and vision for the future. With its state-of-the-art facilities and emphasis on entrepreneurship, the center is set to nurture the next generation of leaders in the business world.
