Greenville Native, Former Tiger Hits First Home Run with Atlanta Braves

Greenville native and former Clemson Tiger Eli White cranked his first home run for the team he grew up rooting for Sunday.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, White hit a solo home run to left field for the Atlanta Braves off of the Philadelphia Phillies’ Tyler Phillips to give his team a 6-0 lead. White said it was “a dream come true” to hit a home run for the team he rooted for as a kid in Greenville. In addition to this being White’s first Braves home run, it was also his first MLB home run since 2022.

White was called up to Atlanta for the first time this season from the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers.

“It was a dream come true. I grew up a Braves fan in South Carolina, so I always dreamed of moments like this,” said Eli White after hitting his first home run in a Braves uniform.

Last season, he appeared in six games for Atlanta and in 14 at-bats he recorded one hit, two walks, and scored a run while striking out seven times. White has been in and out of the majors since the Oakland Athletics picked him in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He played three seasons with the Texas Rangers.

This is White’s 10th career MLB home run just a couple of weeks after his 30th birthday. After attending Wren High School, White started at Clemson for two years at shortstop. Across his three seasons with the Tigers, White hit .275 and appeared in 153 games.
