Thanksgiving is all about family, friends, and food, and this year, residents in the Upstate can feel that warmth even more with numerous businesses and organizations coming together to offer free meals and turkeys. As the big day approaches, the community spirit is alive and kicking, reminding us all of what this holiday is truly about—gratitude and togetherness.
One of the standout events happening this season is the Grateful Greenville community meal, which is set for Monday, November 25. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., head over to Main Street in Downtown Greenville for a delightful free meal open to the public. It’s a perfect opportunity to unite with neighbors and celebrate in a spirit of shared gratitude.
This coming Saturday, November 23, get ready for a Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway that you won’t want to miss! Hosted by Molina Healthcare of South Carolina alongside several local partners, this event will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 151 Berea Middle School Road. Remember, turkeys are available while supplies last, so make sure to arrive early!
Also on November 23 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., families in need can collect a frozen turkey and sides at Berea Middle School. Be sure to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity this holiday season.
On Monday, November 25, the popular Steve Harvey Morning Show will host a Turkey Giveaway at Alexander Elementary School from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Families will be treated to hearty meals and free turkeys, all designed to give everyone a chance to partake in the joy of Thanksgiving.
In another heartwarming effort, The Block is partnering up with HealthyBlue SC and The Clardy Law Firm on November 25, providing $14 Walmart gift cards to 50 pre-selected families along with festive bags filled with various sides. The distribution starts at 4 p.m., with any remaining items given on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 5 p.m. Just another way the community is looking out for each other!
On Tuesday, November 26, you’ll want to check out the 18th Annual Ellis & Bradley Turkey Fry hosted by Miracle Hill Ministries. This remarkable event aims to fry over 600 turkeys for those who need it most, providing a feast for thousands in shelters and low-income homes throughout the Upstate.
On the day of Thanksgiving itself, the Greenville Rescue Mission will step up to provide free meals in to-go boxes at the Triune Mercy Center. Mark your calendars and plan on stopping by!
Spartanburg also has something special lined up with a free Community Thanksgiving Dinner on November 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the C.C. Woodson Community Center. Lasagna will be served, a cozy meal to bring everyone together this holiday season.
In Anderson, Hope Mission invites everyone to a Thanksgiving Breakfast from 7:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. on November 28, ensuring that no one starts the day without a hot meal. They will also host a Thanksgiving Lunch at 10 a.m. the same day, continuing the festive cheer.
Don’t forget about the ongoing Thanksgiving Food Drive for veterans through Harvest Hope Food Bank, which runs until November 22. This is a wonderful chance to give back to those who have served our country, so consider donating non-perishable items to support them.
This Thanksgiving season, various organizations and volunteers in the Upstate are coming together to ensure that everyone has a place at the table. From turkey giveaways to community meals, there’s no shortage of opportunities to share in the spirit of the season. If you know of any additional places offering free meals we missed, please reach out with your information!
