GSP Takes Off: Southwest Airlines Adds Direct Route to Nashville
Southwest Airlines Expands Services at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport
SPARTANBURG, SC –
Southwest Airlines announced today that it will be adding a direct flight route from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) to Nashville, Tennessee. The expansion of services, which began on Tuesday, marks the ninth new route added by GSP this year. Southwest Airlines previously offered a direct flight from GSP to Nashville in 2014.
As part of the expansion, Southwest will also offer direct flights from GSP to Atlanta, Georgia, Denver, Colorado, Baltimore, Maryland, and Houston-Hobby, Texas. Flights to Denver will begin on June 8th, but will only be available on the weekends.
“We are thrilled to welcome back service to Nashville, one of our most requested routes, and to offer Upstate SC passengers even more options for their travel needs,” said Dave Edwards, President and CEO of GSP. “The addition of this new route will not only provide greater connectivity to the West but will also contribute to the economic growth and tourism in our region.”
Continued Growth in Non-Stop Flights
GSP has been experiencing significant growth in non-stop flight options. In May, the airport welcomed Breeze Airways, a low-cost carrier that offers direct flights to destinations including Orlando, Florida, and Los Angeles, California. The addition of Southwest Airlines’ new routes further expands the options available to travelers flying out of GSP.
“With the addition of Southwest Airlines’ direct flights to Nashville and other major cities, GSP continues to solidify its position as a hub for convenient and affordable air travel,” Edwards added. “We are committed to providing our passengers with a wide range of options for their travel needs.”
Boosting Economic Growth and Tourism
The addition of the new routes not only benefits travelers but also contributes to the economic growth and tourism in the Upstate South Carolina region. By providing direct connections to major cities such as Atlanta, Denver, Baltimore, and Houston-Hobby, GSP makes it easier for businesses to conduct commerce and for tourists to explore the area.
“Direct flights to these key destinations open up new opportunities for business development and tourism,” said Edwards. “We are confident that the addition of these routes will attract more visitors to our region and further boost our local economy.”
