COLUMBIA — South Carolina Football Secures 25 High School Recruits

On Wednesday, South Carolina football made significant strides in building their future by signing 25 talented high school players during the early signing period. This marks a crucial step for the Gamecocks as they aim to strengthen their recruiting class for the 2025 season under head coach Shane Beamer.

What Happened?

Throughout the day, most of the wide array of verbal commits signed their official letters of intent. By the end of the signing period, Beamer celebrated not only the commitment of his initial recruits but also the addition of three flipped recruits. These key figures include:

  • Mike Tyler, tight end, who switched from LSU.
  • Damola Ajidahun, offensive lineman, who flipped from Georgia Tech.
  • Zavion Hardy, who changed his commitment from Mississippi State.

Additionally, the Gamecocks welcomed Christian Ingram, a standout defensive lineman from Georgia who opted for South Carolina over offers from Kentucky and Southern Cal. Another notable acquisition was Malik Clark, a promising wide receiver who had initially pledged to Florida State before announcing his decision to join South Carolina on October 5. Clark is highly regarded, being ranked as a four-star recruit and the second-best player in the state of South Carolina according to 247Sports Composite.

Where Are They From?

Geographically, South Carolina attracted a diverse group of players. Out of the 25 signees, 11 hailed from the state, marking it as the primary recruiting ground. Additionally, six recruits came from Georgia. Notable recruits include:

  • 6-6, 280-pound offensive tackle from Duluth, Georgia.
  • 6-3, 190-pound safety from Norfolk, Virginia.
  • 6-3, 225-pound edge rusher from Taylors, South Carolina.

When Is the Signing Period?

The early signing period will conclude on Friday, December 6, while the late signing period is scheduled from February 5 to April 1, 2025. The transfer portal will also open on Monday, December 4, offering additional opportunities for the team to bolster its roster.

Why Is This Important?

This year’s recruiting class is a critical effort as the Gamecocks push to enhance their competitiveness in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). As it stands, South Carolina’s 2025 recruiting class sits at 20th nationally and 12th in the SEC according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. While they have shown improvement, they still trail behind several major conference rivals.

Conclusion

The signing of these 25 athletes demonstrates a strong commitment from Coach Shane Beamer and his staff to build a competitive program for the future. With a balanced mix of offensive and defensive players, including nine on offense and 13 on defense, the Gamecocks are laying down the foundation for a promising new chapter in their football program.
