Simpsonville Advances Rezoning for Salon, Construction Business: City Council Notes

The Simpsonville City Council met on April 9 to discuss various topics, including a rezoning request, action plan, and funds allocation. Here’s a recap of the meeting:

Rezoning Request Approved for Boyd Ave. Property

The City Council gave initial approval to a rezoning request for a property located at 504 Boyd Ave. The property, which currently houses the David Michael Salon and J. Callahan Construction, was previously rezoned for industrial use. The owner, David Dytman, had originally planned to build and open a manufacturing business on the property.

However, Dytman decided not to proceed with the construction and wishes to revert the property back to its business general zoning, according to Jon Derby, the Director of Planning & Economic Development for the city.

This rezoning request will now go before the City Council for final approval on May 14.

GCRA 2024-25 Action Plan and Funds Approved

The Council approved a resolution to accept the Greenville Community Redevelopment Authority’s (GCRA) 2024-25 action plan and funding allocation. The plan includes $185,505 in community development block grant (CDBG) funds and $236,633 in HOME funds.

The CDBG funds can be used to assist low- and moderate-income individuals, reduce or eliminate community blight, or address urgent community needs where no other funding is available. The HOME funds, on the other hand, are earmarked specifically for increasing the supply of affordable housing for individuals with moderate incomes.

The approval of these funds will enable the city to implement various community development projects and initiatives.
