Simpsonville Approves $24.5M Budget with 4% Employee Raise and Key Spending Initiatives

The city of Simpsonville has approved a more than $24.5 million operation budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year, with no tax increase and a 4% cost-of-living pay increase for each of the city’s full-time employees. The budget also includes several key spending items and changes to city ordinances.

The Simpsonville City Council gave final approval to the city’s fiscal year 2024-25 budget, which will see no increase in taxes for residents. The budget includes a 4% cost-of-living pay increase for full-time employees and accommodates a 10% increase in health insurance costs. $250,000 will be allocated for road resurfacing through the city’s Public Works Enterprise Fund. Other budget highlights include a $250,000 capital projects transfer for a new heavy rescue truck, with a final payment and delivery to be made in the 2025-26 budget, and a $250,000 transfer to start a Stormwater Capital Fund.

The Simpsonville City Council has given final approval to a measure that changes the city’s ordinance regarding the planning commission. Under the updated ordinance, four council members will now have to vote to override any recommendations made by the commission, as opposed to the previous requirement for a two-thirds majority.

The City Council has given initial approval to a request to convert uncovered recreational vehicle and boat parking into 95 traditional storage units. The request, made by Extra Space Storage, would see the RV and boat area at 662 Fairview Road replaced with a one-story building. The 10×20 storage units are expected to be built in the coming year pending final approval from the City Council on July 9.

The Simpsonville City Council has given final approval to a request to rezone three properties on W. Georgia Road. The properties, located at 1214, 1212, and 27305, will be combined to build a seven-bay commercial retail structure with storage facilities at the rear of the property. The rezoning request was made by Focal Point Investments LLC and will bring new development and business opportunities to the area.

Simpsonville’s approved budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year demonstrates careful financial planning and consideration for the needs of the city. The decision to provide a cost-of-living pay increase for employees without implementing a tax increase shows the commitment to maintaining a balanced budget and supporting the city’s workforce. The changes to city ordinances, such as the requirement for a four-vote majority to override planning commission recommendations, will help streamline decision-making processes and ensure that all voices are heard in the city’s development.

The approval of the storage unit plans and the rezoning request for retail and storage facilities highlight the city’s commitment to attracting new businesses and providing additional amenities for residents. These developments will contribute to the growth and economic prosperity of Simpsonville.

With a strong budget and strategic planning, Simpsonville is well-positioned to continue thriving and meeting the needs of its residents for the upcoming fiscal year and beyond.
