Upstate District to Close Early College Program, Relocate to Other Schools
Greenville County Schools said it will close one school in the district to create more access for students. According to the district, Greenville Early College will be relocated at the start of this upcoming school year. The program will be relocated at Berea, Carolina, and Southside High Schools. Officials said these schools were selected because the students were from there.
Reason for Relocation
The goal of relocating the program is to provide more access to students, according to district officials. With an increased demand for dual credit courses, Greenville County Schools feels that it can reach more students by incorporating the program at these three high schools.
One of the reasons cited for the move is the declining enrollment that the school has seen over the course of several years. “A big part of that is even though there is a demand for dual credit, students wanted to be at their base high schools and be able to participate in activities with their fellow classmates,” the district said.
Community Response
The decision to close Greenville Early College and relocate the program to other schools has sparked mixed reactions within the community. Some parents and students voiced their concerns about the impact this move will have on the students who are currently enrolled in the program. Others see it as a positive step towards providing more opportunities for a larger number of students.
New Opportunities for Students
By relocating the Early College program to Berea, Carolina, and Southside High Schools, Greenville County Schools aims to ensure that more students have access to dual credit courses and the benefits that come with them. This strategic move will not only expand educational opportunities but also foster a sense of community among the students.
Looking Ahead
As the district prepares for the upcoming school year and the transition of the Early College program, educators and administrators are working diligently to ensure a smooth relocation process. Students, parents, and staff members are encouraged to provide feedback and engage in open communication to address any concerns and facilitate a successful transition.
