The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office reported that 26-year-old Peighton Ivie turned himself in on Thursday following an altercation at Ellen Woodside Elementary School.
According to authorities, Ivie intervened to break up a group of students gathering in a school bathroom when the incident occurred. Arrest warrants state that Ivie lifted a fifth-grade student and forcefully threw him back onto the ground.
Greenville County Schools confirmed that Ivie worked as a computer lab manager at the elementary school but is no longer employed within the district.
Ivie has been charged with cruelty to children and is currently in custody at the Greenville County Detention Center. During a hearing on Thursday night, he was given a $450 bond.
