‘I thought it was a plane falling’: School bus crashes into Upstate home
No injuries were reported after a Greenville County school bus crashed into a mobile home near Travelers Rest Monday
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. (FOX Carolina) –
Greenville County Schools said a district bus crashed into a home on Monday morning. According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, a bus with two students on board was heading west on Stamey Valley Road near Travelers Rest when the bus ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and went across the left side of the road. The bus hit a mailbox and fence before crashing into a mobile home.
The home was unoccupied at the time of the crash and no injuries were reported, but the property was destroyed.
“I was laying in bed, I heard a noise,”
said the property owner Kathleen Crosby. “I thought it was a plane falling from the sky.”
Crosby lives in another house on the property but is also a caregiver out of her home, so the home that was destroyed was a getaway for her.
“There was a time when I would go down there and just relax,”
Crosby said. “I take care of people at my home. Sometimes I just want to get away and relax.”
She said it’s also a sad loss because the home had memories of her mother and grandmother, but she is just glad no one was hurt.
“The memories are gone now,”
Crosby said. “But I’m just thankful to God that no one got killed or got hurt.”
Troopers said the bus driver is being charged with driving too fast for conditions. At this time, officials are not releasing the driver’s name. Stay tuned for further details.
