Greenville Journal News: SC Governor’s School student selected for American Legion’s Boys Nation

Greenville, SC – June 27, 2024

Charlie Ratterree, a rising senior at South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville, has been chosen to be a delegate for the American Legion’s Boys Nation program. He will be one of two students representing South Carolina at the annual forum in Washington D.C. in July.

During the week-long program, Ratterree will learn how the U.S. Senate and federal government function by participating in a model legislative process. Many students who have participated in the program have gone on to serve in public office, including presidents, congressmen, and state legislators. Ratterree is the first student at the Governor’s School to be chosen for Boys Nation.

Ratterree’s Selection Process

Ratterree was selected from the 1,000 students who participated at the Palmetto Boys State at Anderson University this summer. During the event, he was elected to the event’s mock South Carolina Senate, served as President Pro Tem, and anchored the Boys State news broadcast service.

To attend Palmetto Boys State, Ratterree was chosen by American Legion Post 3 after completing an application and interview process. He is a member of the Governor’s School’s National Honor Society and Environmental Club. He will serve as the co-president of the student body for the 2024-25 academic year.

Stay tuned as Charlie Ratterree represents South Carolina at the American Legion’s Boys Nation program, showcasing his leadership skills and commitment to public service.
