South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities Launches Initiative to Replace Pianos with Steinway Instruments

Greenville, South Carolina – The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville has launched an initiative to replace the school’s outdated pianos with Steinway instruments. The school’s initial fundraising goal is $500,000, which will be used to purchase six Steinway-designed Boston baby grand pianos for practice rooms and a new Steinway Model D for the school’s recital hall.

“Our pianos are in dire need of an upgrade,” said Amanda Montgomery, head of the school’s piano department. The school currently has over 20 pianos that are in need of replacement with Steinway instruments. The initiative aims to provide the best resources for the students and enhance the learning and performance capabilities of the music department.

The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities is a residential public arts high school that has been helping emerging artists refine their skills since its inception in 1999. With the launch of the Steinway initiative, the school aims to connect students with Steinway, one of the most prestigious names in music, and provide them with excellent instruments to further their artistic development.

Kristina Sanders, educator liaison for Steinway Piano Gallery in Greenville, is helping to lead the initiative. Sanders, along with the support of the school’s staff and alumni, is working towards reaching the fundraising goal and acquiring the Steinway pianos for the school.

Cedric Adderley, the school president, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “As a model for public education in South Carolina, we strive to provide the best possible resources for our students. Connecting them with Steinway, one of the most prestigious names in music, will greatly benefit their learning and performance capabilities.”

The Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities has a reputation for excellence in arts education and offers programs in creative writing, dance, drama, music, and visual arts. By providing students with top-of-the-line Steinway pianos, the school aims to further enhance their musical education and create an environment conducive to artistic growth.

The Steinway initiative has already garnered support from the local community, including individuals, businesses, and organizations. The school has set up a dedicated webpage on its website to provide information on the initiative and accept online donations. Those interested in supporting the initiative can visit www.scgsah.org/steinways-students for more information.

The support and contributions from the community are instrumental in making this initiative a success. Every donation brings the school closer to achieving its goal of providing high-quality pianos for its students. The Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities believes that by investing in the best instruments, they are investing in the future of the arts and the development of their students.

With the launch of this initiative, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities is taking a significant step towards ensuring that its students have the best resources available to nurture their artistic talents and reach their full potential. The acquisition of Steinway pianos will not only benefit current students but also future generations of artists who will pass through the school.

The Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities invites the local community, as well as supporters from across the state and beyond, to join them in their mission to provide the highest quality education and opportunities for young artists. By contributing to the Steinway initiative, individuals can play a part in shaping the artistic landscape of South Carolina and making a lasting impact on the lives of talented young musicians.
