Righteous Brothers Farewell Tour Rolls Into Greenville: Upstate Beat

Bearing an illustrious legacy and an outpouring of public devotion, iconic blue-eyed soul duo The Righteous Brothers are bidding farewell after an impressive 62-year professional journey. Their illustrious “Lovin’ Feelin’ Farewell Tour” made a memorable stop at the esteemed Peace Center in Greenville on Feb 29, 2024, delighting legions of fans who flocked to the city in anticipation.

The pair had a staggering list of unforgettable hits to their credit, leading to a legacy that seems practically insurmountable by today’s standards. Synonymous with “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin,’” a soul-rock ballad of unparalleled classic appeal that fires off heartbroken sparks even today, The Righteous Brothers have carved an indelible mark on the canvas of music. This timeless track was even recognized by the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress in 2015 as one of 25 recordings significant to American society’s cultural, artistic, and audio legacy.

The Legacy of Righteous Brothers

However, that was just the tip of their enviable sonic iceberg. Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, the ingenious minds behind the brand, embarked on a journey that saw them helm classic hits like “Ebb Tide,” “(You’re My) Soul & Inspiration,” “Unchained Melody” and “Just Once in My Life,” prime examples of musical excellence that have found a home on radio playlists for decades.

In the sea of emotion, nostalgia, and celebration, it is Bill Medley, the surviving half of the original duo, who voiced what lay underneath the surface. “The traveling was becoming pretty tough,” says Medley, himself an embodiment of artistic ingenuity at the ripe age of 83 years. “Like we say, we will perform the show for free, but you will have to pay us to travel.”

The Rebirth of Righteous Brothers

The duo remained silent following the unfortunate passing of Bobby Hatfield in 2003, until Bucky Heard’s persevering performance in 2016 sparked a resurgence. Medley explained, “I was performing solo,” He added, “and I had no intention of reviving the Righteous Brothers, but a number of friends mentioned, ‘People want to hear that music again”. Medley’s encounter with Heard during a performance in Branson, Missouri, led to a chance reunion that, in Medley’s words, “sounded great.” That was all it took to light the spark anew and hit the road one last time for the final tour.

During the Greenville chapter of their farewell tour, Medley and Heard took fans on a heart-touching journey through their beloved musical catalog. Medley expressed his excitement about connecting with the audience and reminisced how he feels 25 again every time he steps on the stage.
