Prisma to Maintain Headquarters in Greenville Amid City’s Redesign Plans

City council approves a $38 million project to redevelop Falls Street-East McBee Avenue Complex

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville City Council has given the green light for a $38 million redevelopment plan of an office complex located at the junction of Falls Street and East McBee Avenue. This site happens to be the epicenter of operations for South Carolina’s largest healthcare network, Prisma Health.

The city will be putting forward $650,000 towards this substantial project in a bid to augment Prisma Health’s presence at 300 East McBee, whilst inviting more businesses and establishing a public plaza. The grand redesign plan also incorporates enhancing public facilities which include broader sidewalks, brand-new streetlights, and improved landscaping.

New Business Opportunities Emergng

The city has confirmed that Charlotte-based scratch kitchen and oyster bar, STIR, will inaugurate a new restaurant within this space. They are currently in the negotiating phase with other potential businesses which could bring nearly 650 full-time employment opportunities to downtown Greenville.

“To label this as an economic engine is quite the understatement,” expressed councilman John DeWorken. “I stand in full support of any measures we can take to ensure Prisma Health stays put and remains content. Boasting more than 30,000 system-wide employees, retaining this corporate headquarters downtown could trigger more development. I am optimistic that we will witness a return on investment.”

Private investment will largely fund the brunt of the project, according to the council. This move aligns with the city’s efforts to combine urban development with supporting functionally essential headquarters such as Prisma.

Contribution of Prisma Health to Greenville’s Economy

In Greenville, Prisma Health plays a pivotal role in maintaining the healthcare sector’s infrastructure while also functioning as one of the city’s largest employers. This multi-million dollar project for redevelopment will not only ensure Prisma Health’s continued presence but will also invite a myriad of new businesses and create hundreds of jobs, thus enhancing the overall economy of Greenville.

A New Chapter for Greenville

This project marks a new chapter for Greenville as it brings about a transformation that combines modern urban planning while ensuring the continued presence of major employers. It renews its commitment of developing the city for residents, organizations, and businesses alike, making it a model for other cities in their urban development plans.

While changes are underway, local residents and businesses are following the developments with optimism. The revitalization process will breathe fresh life into the city, ultimately contributing to a more dynamic and vibrant downtown Greenville.
