Culminating years of preparation and anticipation, the Prisma Health Center for Health & Life Sciences at Greenville Technical College is now operational. Aligning with the institution’s long-standing commitment to training healthcare professionals to address the needs of Greenville’s growing health sector, the advanced facility is a significant milestone.
With its establishment in 1962, Greenville Technical College has been privileged to have Prisma Health as one of its valued partners. Foreseeing the increasing need for trained healthcare professionals, the two institutions have shared a symbiotic relationship, ensuring the best training environments for prospective doctors, nurses, and other healthcare personnel. It’s little surprise that Prisma Health ranks as the top employer of Greenville Tech graduates.
Building on this rich heritage, the two partners have pulled resources to establish the new Prisma Health Center. Proffering over 100 programs in five academic schools, the center is poised to tap into the vast talent pool, meeting the ever-increasing staffing needs of the health sector.
The state-of-the-art facility brims with modern technology. Far from being an edifice decked with traditional teaching equipment, the center benefits from the latest technology. For instance, life-size digital cadavers would help students apply their theoretical knowledge on a full-scale model. This allows learners to explore human anatomy at a more detailed level, studying bones, muscles, and vascular systems separately or in combination.
Further enhancing the hands-on learning experience, a modernized imaging suite for radiography students, enhanced sonography capabilities and expanded laboratories are among the center’s offerings. A hefty $1.5 million investment from Prisma Health ensures that future professionals are adeptly prepared for the workforce.
In its commitment to produce the next generation of healthcare professionals, the Prisma Health Center stands as a beacon in banishing perceived barriers in STEM. Thanks to innovative classroom designs, concepts typically associated with STEM are demystified via strategic visual cues. From glass-walled classrooms to exposed tools in glass cabinets, educational activities have been rendered visible, inviting curious eyes towards rewarding STEM vocations.
Consideration for students’ welfare doesn’t stop at state-of-the-art facilities. Prisma Health’s commitment to academic nurturing is evidence in its $450,000 scholarship fund designed to provide 30 nursing scholarships each year. Additionally, an advising specialist will guide students in their journey from academia to the professional world, working towards their successful integration into Prisma’s workforce.
The Prisma Health Center for Health & Life Sciences is set to open its gates to students on August 26. With the innovative classrooms and relevant education modules at their disposal, learners can look forward to a unique, life-altering educational experience.
