Presidential Historian Mark Updegrove to Inspire Greenville Residents at Special Event on November 7

Exciting Event in Greenville: Presidential Histories to Inspire!

If you’re in Greenville, mark your calendars for November 7 because something special is going down at the historic Poinsett Club! Mark Updegrove, one of our nation’s top presidential historians, is coming to town just two days after the presidential election. Now that’s what we call perfect timing!

An Evening with a Presidential Expert

Starting at 5:30 p.m., guests will have the opportunity to meet Updegrove and get their hands on signed copies of his books. If you’re a history buff or just curious about what really goes on behind the scenes in the White House, you won’t want to miss his presentation which kicks off at 6 p.m..

So who is Mark Updegrove? He’s not just an author—he’s the president and CEO of the LBJ Foundation, a former director of the LBJ Presidential Library, and a go-to presidential historian for ABC News. His resume is impressive, to say the least, and he knows his stuff when it comes to the presidency.

Lessons in Leadership from Seven American Presidents

During his talk, Updegrove will be sharing insights on the character and leadership of seven U.S. presidents: Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Each story is filled with lessons about overcoming flaws and challenges, all while doing what they thought was best. Whether it’s Ford’s ethics of “doing right” or Obama’s embodiment of “grace,” there’s something for everyone to take away. Plus, the event will be enhanced by photographs and video clips from exclusive interviews, making history come alive in an engaging way!

A Cause to Celebrate

But wait, there’s more! The event is sponsored by the American History Book Club and Furman University, and proceeds from ticket sales, priced at $50, go to support the A.V. and Kate Huff History Scholars awards. Not only do you get a night of enlightening history, but you’re also helping local teachers and students achieve their educational goals. Isn’t that a win-win?

Recognizing Local Achievements

Speaking of local support, at the event, there will be a special recognition for this year’s award winners. The A.V. Huff History Scholars Award goes to Furman student Emily Anne Harris, a history major who’s doing some amazing work for Furman’s bicentennial celebration. Talk about making a mark!

As for the local teachers, David Bernardy and Ashley Blackwelder will be recognized for their remarkable contributions to history education. Bernardy is taking his students to Cowpens National Battlefield Park, while Blackwelder is running a year-long “Fairforest Family Tree” project at her school that promises to be both educational and fun.

How to Get Involved

Feeling inspired? You have a couple of options to get involved! For more details about the event and purchasing tickets, head over to www.furman.edu/ahbc, or you can give them a call at 864-294-3351 or shoot them an email at [email protected]. Whether you’re there for the history, the authors, or the charitable cause, it’s sure to be an evening full of inspiration!

So remember, come November 7, grab your friends and enjoy this unique opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business, all while supporting local educational initiatives. Who knew history could be so much fun?
