Early Wednesday morning, a horrific incident on Highway 17 Bypass resulted in the death of a pedestrian who was struck by two separate vehicles, as per reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP).

According to SCHP Corporal David Jones, the tragic scene unfolded around 2:15 a.m. near Wood Thrush Drive in Horry County. The victim, who was attempting to traverse the road, was initially struck by a 2002 Lexus four-door. Following the initial impact, a second, unidentified vehicle also struck the pedestrian before hastily departing from the scene.

Continuing Investigation

Details regarding the pedestrian and the hit-and-run driver have yet to be released. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently conducting an extensive investigation into the incident.
