GREENVILLE – The 18th Annual Patriotic Lakeside Band Concert with the Greenville Chorale is set to take place at 7:30 p.m. on June 27 at the Furman Amphitheatre. This highly anticipated event will feature a dazzling professional fireworks display to conclude the evening, adding an extra spark to the patriotic festivities.
The collaboration between the 80-member Lakeside Band and 90-member Greenville Chorale promises a night filled with musical pyrotechnics. The chorale will showcase their talent with an a cappella rendition of “The William Tell Overture,” known for its association with “The Lone Ranger.” Meanwhile, the Lakeside Band will deliver stirring Sousa marches and other patriotic pieces to excite the audience.
The admission-free event typically draws crowds of 4,000 to 5,000, embodying a sense of community spirit and celebration. Sue Samuels, director of the Lakeside Concert Band, expressed gratitude for the community’s support, emphasizing the event’s appeal to individuals of all ages.
The concert will feature well-loved classics such as “America the Beautiful,” the national anthem, and John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.” Additionally, the band will pay tribute to the armed forces with an “Armed Forces Salute,” inviting veterans to stand and be recognized as the respective military branch themes are played.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the performance of “Swingin’ With the Saints,” allowing the chorale to showcase their versatility as a jazz choir. Audience participation will also be encouraged with a patriotic singalong, bringing everyone together in a musical celebration of America.
Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics to enjoy the concert in comfort. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be moved indoors to McAlister Auditorium. The Lakeside Band, along with other groups, will continue to offer free concerts throughout the summer as part of the Music by the Lake series.
