Omron Automation Relocates Manufacturing Plant to Inland Port Greer

In a significant economic development for the Inland Port in Greer, Omron Automation Americas, a global leader in automation technology, is relocating its manufacturing plant from Renton, Washington, to Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The $9.2 million investment is expected to create 162 new jobs in the region.

The Announcement

The announcement was made on February 8 at a news conference held at Spartanburg Community College’s Spark Center SC in Duncan. Representing Omron Automation at the event were officials including Chairman and CEO of Omron Management Center of America, Nigel Blakeway, and President and CEO of Omron Automation Americas, Robb Black. They were joined by a distinguished panel of state and local officials, such as Lt. Governor Pamela Evette, Greer Mayor Rick Danner, and County Councilman David Britt.

Joining the Inland Port Community

Omron Automation will be relocating to the Inland Port Greer, at 311 Genoble Road, and is expected to begin operations between now and May. The company will be in good company, joining other well-established manufacturing heavyweights like BMW, Keurig Dr. Pepper, and Milo’s Tea. The company’s new facility will be used for manufacturing a range of products, including motion controllers and drives, machine vision, barcode readers, and verification systems.

In addition to this, their relocation will bring a novel addition to the facility’s use – a state-of-the-art Proof of Concept Center. This new center will showcase the latest breakthroughs in the automation realm, particularly focusing on areas like sensing control, safety, vision, motion, and robotics.

Why Greer?

According to Blakeway, Greer was handpicked due to its robust workforce and the community’s established partners. Speaking on the occasion, he stated, “Spartanburg County stood out as an outstanding location because of the great access we have to a world-class workforce and the community partners that are already established here.”

Job Opportunities on the Horizon

With the relocation of its manufacturing plant, Omron Automation is set to create 162 jobs in Spartanburg County. The company is already in the process of hiring for various positions at the new Inland Port Greer facility. Employees at Omron Automation can expect benefits like paid holidays, community service leave, a comprehensive private health insurance including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, a 401(k) scheme with a 4% company match, and performance-based bonuses.

Conclusion

The move by Omron Automation is a significant boost for Greer, and the Spartanburg County at large. Not only will it inject $9.2 million into the local economy, but it will also contribute to the community’s technical advancement and the creation of job opportunities.
