Old Europe Coffee and Desserts opened at Bridgeway Station on May 24, marking its second location in Greenville County. The pastry, coffee, and sweets shop is stationed at 2107 Via Corso Ave.
In a space around 30 percent larger than its downtown location, the new Old Europe Coffee and Desserts is 3,000 square feet and has 75 indoor and 25 outdoor seats. While the European-styled dessert and refreshment space offers the same fixings as a traditional coffee shop, the spacing, ambiance, and open-window seating up front make Old Europe a place for networking and conversations as much as laptop and bookwork.
“The Old Europe tradition we’ve had downtown will continue here, and that involves having scratch-made pastries and just feeling like you can sit back and relax,” said Bobby Daugherty, owner of Old Europe Coffee and Desserts. “We want the space to feel European and welcoming to all.”
Daugherty, a former Furman University football player and finance professional, opened his first Old Europe Coffee and Desserts location in the West End in 2019. He brought the concept from Asheville, which began in 2015. Since then, he has delivered some of the best sweets and savory treats in the Greenville area.
The Italian-castle-like design and overall theme of Bridgeway Station match the Old Europe Coffee and Desserts concept, as the cuisine and decor work hand-in-hand with the rest of the multi-use property. “When Bridgeway was first described to me, I knew it would be something that would last for generations,” said Daugherty. “We knew the synergies between what’s been done here, which looks like an Italian village, was pretty easy to figure out, and I think can we deliver.” Daugherty also figures to produce more catering from this location, as the corporate headquarters are within a five-mile radius of Bridgeway Station.
Both Old Europe locations will feature similar menus, featuring around 24 desserts and treats, including macaroons, cheesecake, coffee, wine, breakfast sandwiches, quiche, and other grab-and-go lunch items. Their menu draws inspiration from Hungary, Austria, Germany, Italy, and France and includes vegan and gluten-free options.
Old Europe Coffee and Desserts’ hours are Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
