GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A new school under construction in Greenville County is one step closer to getting a name. On Tuesday, a Greenville County School District committee voted to recommend “Reedy Laurel Elementary” for the school coming to Isbell Lane. Reedy River and Laurel Creek both run through the area, so the name reflects their historical significance and aligns with plans for an academic focus on environmental science at the school.
The name is one of many the district received through submissions that were open to the public in March. Below were the five finalists in the naming discussion:
The school, which will serve up to 750 students from Pre-K through 5th grade, is slated to open in August 2025 at the original site of J.L. Mann High Academy. J.L. Mann moved to Fairforest Way in 2007. Next week the proposal of “Reedy Laurel” will be discussed by the committee of the whole and head to a vote by the district board on May 28.
