The Metropolitan Arts Council (MAC) in Greenville, South Carolina, is a beacon of hope for artists and art enthusiasts in the community. Established in 1973, MAC aims to stimulate and support artistic expression, broaden appreciation for the arts, and enrich the lives of residents, artists, cultural organizations, and communities throughout Greenville County.
Funding and Support

- Awarded $558,441 to individual artists, arts organizations, and schools through its grants program
- 143 artists participating in Greenville Open Studios earned $493,358
- Flat Out Under Pressure, MAC’s annual 24-hour visual arts challenge, drew 128 submissions and awarded prizes totaling $7,000
- Facilitated the placement and service of eight recycling bins in downtown Greenville featuring winning artists’ works
- Placed 150 artists in 42 Greenville County Schools district schools through the SmartARTS program
- Funded over 800 arts-integrated units for the district since SmartARTS began in 2002
