Falls Park on the Reedy

Falls Park on the Reedy is a 32-acre park in the historic West End section of Greenville, South Carolina. The park was formed in 1967 when the Carolina Foothills Garden Club recovered 26 acres of land that had previously been utilized by textile mills. It is considered the birthplace of Greenville. Under Mayor Knox H. White, renovations intensified in the late 1990s, leading to the foundation of the Falls Park Endowment, a private organization that supports the ongoing development.

The Upstate Shakespeare Festival takes place in the park every summer. The park’s most remarkable feature is a one-of-a-kind pedestrian bridge that arcs around a Reedy River waterfall. The 355-foot long suspension bridge, known as the Liberty Bridge at Falls Park on the Reedy, is sustained by cables on just one side, providing an unimpeded view of the falls. It was finished in the fall of 2004 and was designed by Boston company Rosales + Partners with structural engineers Schlaich Bergermann & Partner from Germany. In 2005, it received the Arthur G. Hayden Medal for creative design.
