Live Speed Painting Duo to Hit Furman University for July Fourth Celebration

Greenville, SC – The well-known father-son duo, PaintJam, is set to perform live this Thursday at Furman University as part of the university’s summer concert series. The show will take place on July Fourth, a day synonymous with celebration, fireworks, and community spirit.

An Artistic Celebration

The PaintJam pair, made up of Dan and Harvey Dunn, will be captivating audiences with their unique speed painting talents. They are scheduled to perform at the amphitheater on campus starting at 7:30 p.m. The event is free to the public, making it an accessible and engaging way to celebrate the holiday.

Director of Bands at Furman University, Sue Samuels, expressed the excitement surrounding the event, stating, “We’re celebrating July Fourth by bringing the folks from PaintJam to come and create visual arts that accompany the music we’re playing together.”

A Journey Through Art

PaintJam has quite an interesting backstory. The father-son duo began their artistic journey twenty years ago during a tough financial time when they found themselves “upside down on credit card debt.” Rather than letting those challenges define them, they turned to their passion for art and spent countless hours honing their craft, which eventually grew into a popular performance art phenomenon.

“Our very first show happened to be a Fourth of July show,” Dan Dunn shared, emphasizing the sentimental connection they have with this upcoming performance. “So we’re really excited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of PaintJam here.”

Speed Painting in Action

During their live performance, PaintJam will create stunning visual art pieces in a matter of minutes, all while being set to live music. “We get on stage and in five minutes or less we’ll create a mural,” Harvey explained. The duo is known for their impressive speed and ability to paint upside down, which adds an extra layer of excitement to their shows. Their performances have gained them recognition on various popular television programs, including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and even during a Super Bowl appearance.

Building a Unique Experience

Through their performances, Dan and Harvey aim to spread joy and love through art. “We’re just out here spreading joy and love with art,” Dan emphasized, capturing the heartwarming essence of what PaintJam is all about. Their shows are not just about the painting; they are an immersive experience where the audience can enjoy live music while watching the creation of stunning artwork.

Join the Celebration

The combination of speed painting and live music makes for an engaging and entertaining evening that residents of Greenville and beyond won’t want to miss. Families, art lovers, and those looking to celebrate July Fourth in a unique way are all encouraged to attend this free event at Furman University. Bring a blanket and enjoy an evening filled with creativity and community spirit.
