Lake Forest Flooring: A Friendly Fixture in Greenville’s Community for 72 Years
Located in the charming city of Greenville, Lake Forest Flooring has been a trusted name in the community for over 72 years. Led by the naturally gifted communicator, Gregg Moore, the store has evolved into a place where customers not only find high-quality flooring options but also build lasting relationships.
A Journey of Unexpected Opportunities
Gregg’s journey began in 1996 when he first dipped his toes into the flooring industry with a company that specialized in unfinished hardwood. By 2000, he was with Mohawk Flooring, where his charm and expertise quickly made him a valuable sales representative. For the next 14 years, he traveled throughout the Upstate and into North Carolina, offering flooring solutions to retailers.
Things took an unexpected turn in 2013 when one of his clients, Martha Woods, who had taken over Lake Forest Carpet from her father, approached him with a proposal. “Martha said, ‘Gregg, I’m going to sell my store, and I want you to buy it,’” he recalls. After some initial hesitation and a couple of polite refusals, Martha’s persistence led him to reconsider the opportunity. “The Lord put your name on my heart,” she told him, which ultimately played a pivotal role in his decision-making.
After a couple of months of praying and conversations with his wife, Mitzi, they decided to embark on this new venture. “She was all for it,” Moore beams. Not only did he purchase the beloved flooring store, but he also acquired the building and another next to it, solidifying his commitment to the community.
Generational Relationships and Quality Products
Lake Forest Flooring is more than just a flooring store; it’s a generational business. Moore shares, “People come in because their great-grandparents bought flooring from us in the ’50s, their grandparents bought, their mom and dad bought, and now they’re buying.” This rich history has instilled a level of trust that keeps customers coming back.
The store carries a wide range of flooring options including ceramic tile, hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl plank, carpet, and area rugs. According to Moore, luxury vinyl plank continues to be a favorite among homeowners due to its versatility and ease of maintenance. “It’s durable and resistant to scratches and water,” he emphasizes, though he reminds customers it’s not fully flood-proof.
Meanwhile, laminate flooring is making a comeback with improved finishes and textures. Moore points out, “Carpet is still popular and has evolved to be pet-friendly, child-proof, and even wine-proof!” But without a doubt, timeless hardwood remains a top choice for many, often seen as both elegant and durable.
Helping Customers with Flooring Decisions
Choosing flooring can feel overwhelming, and Moore understands this. “You buy a vehicle maybe two times in 10 years. You buy floor covering once or twice in a lifetime,” he notes. That’s why Lake Forest Flooring prides itself on offering guidance and quality customer service to simplify the decision-making process.
The team—a blend of seasoned professionals and enthusiastic newcomers—is dedicated to providing exceptional service. They combine experience with an over-the-top friendly atmosphere to create a welcoming shopping experience. The store also employs Maye-Webb McCauley, a full-time interior designer who helps clients coordinate their flooring with paint and fabric choices, making it easier for customers to visualize their desired outcomes.
A Supportive Family Environment
Moore’s family is also active in the store’s operations, which adds a personal touch to the business. His daughter Jenna assists with marketing and social media, while his son Josh manages deliveries and store oversight. Collaborating with talented subcontractors, they ensure that every installation goes smoothly.
Reflecting on his journey with Lake Forest Flooring, Moore states, “It’s been a good 11 years. We’re growing, and we look forward to serving the Upstate for years to come.” This commitment to community, quality service, and lasting relationships defines not only Lake Forest Flooring but also the spirit of Greenville.
