Greenville, a lively city in South Carolina, is getting ready to welcome acclaimed author Jeannette Walls as she visits to promote her latest novel “Hang the Moon.”
“Hang the Moon” is set in a Prohibition-era small town nestled in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. The story revolves around 8-year-old Sallie Kincaid and her father, Duke Kincaid, who manages Kincaid Holdings—a business conglomerate comprising a lumber mill, hauling company, and a lucrative bootlegging operation.
As the narrative unfolds, Duke remarries and introduces Eddie, a quiet, intellectual boy, into the family. Sallie is tasked with molding her young stepbrother into a Kincaid, but her efforts result in an accident that leads her to relocate to her aunt Faye’s residence miles away. Nine years later, Sallie returns to reclaim her spot in the family, only to find a world rife with gun-toting moonshiners, intense racial tensions, various forms of exploitation, and vocal temperance activists.
Jeannette Walls, a former journalist based in Virginia, is set to make two appearances in downtown Greenville on March 27 in support of her novel.
The events are organized by M.Judson Booksellers and include a Lunch and Lit session at noon at Soby’s and a Books Over Drinks gathering at 7:30 p.m. at the bookstore. Admission to Lunch and Lit is priced at $50 per person, while tickets for Books Over Drinks are $30 per attendee. For further details, interested individuals can visit the official website of M.Judson Booksellers.
Greenville residents and literature enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the visit of Jeannette Walls, where they will have the opportunity to engage with the author and delve into the captivating world she has crafted in “Hang the Moon.”
