A part of the Jasmine Road program, it offers culinary training and employment in a supportive environment. With a focus on community impact, Jasmine Kitchen serves delicious food and handmade gifts, while empowering women on their journey to recovery.
In the heart of Greenville, South Carolina, a remarkable culinary venture is taking shape at Jasmine Kitchen, where delicious meals meet compassionate empowerment. Nestled at 503 Augusta St., this social enterprise is on a mission to provide employment opportunities exclusively for women survivors of human trafficking, prostitution, and addiction. The restaurant is proudly part of the Jasmine Road program, a transformative two-year residential recovery initiative designed to help women rebuild their lives.
Founded in 2018, Jasmine Road began humbly with just one house and five courageous women. The primary goal was to foster an environment of stability, therapy, and valuable job skills. Over the years, the seeds of this vision have grown, leading to the creation of Jasmine Kitchen. The concept stems from innovative thinkers who wanted to tell the inspiring stories of Jasmine Road through the joy of food. This idea has blossomed into a thriving establishment where culinary arts take center stage.
Thanks to a collaborative partnership with Greenville Tech and Project Host, residents receive essential culinary training tailored to prepare them for jobs in the food industry. Under the expert guidance of Chef Tina Hogue, the kitchen team marries their experience with the fresh enthusiasm of program residents. Together, they whip up a lunch-only menu that showcases flavorful dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients. Diners can indulge in hearty options such as chicken and stars soup, exquisite Mulligatawny soup, and the vibrant Tuscan kale and brussels sprouts salad, all crowned by delightful desserts like the iconic buttermilk vanilla pound cake.
Step into Jasmine Kitchen, and you’ll immediately feel the warmth radiating from both the food and the atmosphere. The dining space boasts a creative décor featuring vibrant textiles and original local artwork, all constructed from repurposed materials. It’s more than just a restaurant; it’s a nurturing space where women can thrive while integrating into the community.
As of January 2023, Jasmine Kitchen has reached a milestone by employing 11 residents simultaneously—a remarkable accomplishment for the program. This setup not only provides jobs but also fosters a sense of community, allowing these brave women to find a supportive network and a sense of belonging.
But Jasmine Kitchen isn’t solely focused on food; they also sell handmade gifts, including beautiful jewelry and scented soy wax candles. The proceeds from these sales significantly benefit the Jasmine Road program, amplifying their mission to empower women and transform lives. The restaurant thrives on community support, collecting donations and grants to ensure that they can keep providing affordable, high-quality meals while upholding their dedication to social causes.
Exciting plans are on the horizon for Jasmine Kitchen. The team is working on expanding operations to include a new space that will feature a bakery and a commissary kitchen. This new venture is expected to enhance the program’s capacity even further, solidifying Jasmine Kitchen’s commitment to providing valuable opportunities for women ready to embrace a new chapter in their lives.
In a world where every meal tells a story, Jasmine Kitchen stands as a beacon of hope, connecting culinary excellence with deep-rooted advocacy. Whether you’re stopping by for lunch, looking for unique gifts, or simply wishing to support a noble cause, pop into Jasmine Kitchen—you’re not just enjoying a meal, you’re contributing to a brighter future for women in Greenville.
