Sponsor Our ArticlesThe Greer City Council has unanimously approved the final reading for the annexation of 25.9 acres near South S.C. Highway 14 and South Buncombe Road. This land will host a $60 million sports complex featuring basketball and volleyball courts, community rooms, and an e-sports facility. The project is a key part of the broader $100 million ForGreer initiative aiming to enhance infrastructure and recreational offerings. Additional zoning changes for housing developments were also approved by the council.
Residents of Greer, get ready to mark your calendars because the Greer City Council has just made a decision that will surely pump up the excitement in our community. After a unanimous vote, the City Council approved the final reading of an ordinance that will see the annexation of properties near South S.C. Highway 14 and South Buncombe Road. This may very well be the dawn of a new era in local sports and entertainment!
The annexed properties, which total roughly 25.9 acres, are set to become the home of a dazzling $60 million sports complex. Plans for this ambitious project were officially announced back in August 2024, and it seems like our city is ready to take a big leap forward!
The initial zoning category for the newly annexed land has been established as a regional center. What does that mean for us? Well, it means that this space is envisioned to contribute to the broader community by serving various recreational and entertainment needs. The sports complex will boast facilities, including basketball and volleyball courts, community rooms, an e-sports facility, and even batting cages. Talk about a one-stop destination for fun!
This sports complex isn’t just a standalone project; it’s part of a larger initiative known as the $100 million ForGreer initiative. This initiative aims to enhance our city’s infrastructure and recreational offerings further, promising to have lasting positive impacts on our community.
Next, we have a property at 301 Arlington Road that’s being rezoned from Commercial General to Traditional Neighborhood for the creation of a cozy single-family attached community on a 1.1-acre parcel. These developments will help diversify our housing options and cater to those looking for new living arrangements.
Finally, the council is also moving forward with the annexation of a 0.5-acre parcel at 333 Gin House Road, establishing a Suburban Neighborhood zoning classification aiming for continued single-family residential use. This ensures that residents can enjoy peaceful living environments amidst this changing landscape.
And let’s not forget about the upcoming redevelopment of County Square, a significant project poised to change the face of Greenville. This substantial initiative will cover over 37 acres, which is about the same size as downtown Greenville’s core! The estimated cost? A whopping $1 billion over the next decade! Exciting times indeed!
County Square is conveniently located within walking distance of Falls Park, Fluor Field, and the Swamp Rabbit Trail, offering ample recreational options. This redevelopment plan includes tearing down the existing mall, which has housed various county operations and making way for a fresh and innovative design.
With all these exciting plans in the works, it’s natural for residents to have concerns about potential traffic and density issues. City officials recognize these worries and are dedicated to minimizing traffic impacts and enhancing accessibility in our beloved area. The aim is to create a thriving community where residents can enjoy all these new developments without compromising their day-to-day lives.
In conclusion, the future looks bright for Greer! With a new sports and entertainment complex on the way and various housing adjustments in the pipeline, our community is gearing up for an optimistic transformation. Stay tuned for more updates as we watch our town evolve and grow!
