Requests Denied: Greer Planning Commission Considers Potential Projects

In a recent meeting, Greer’s Planning Commission deliberated on two significant requests that could impact the city’s landscape and its residents. The decisions made by the commission play a crucial role in shaping the future of Greer.

Rezoning and Annexation Request near Abner Creek Road

One of the requests under consideration was for the rezoning and annexation of nearly 25 acres of land situated off Abner Creek Road, close to the intersection with Brockman McClimon Road, adjacent to Spartanburg EMS Station 26. The property, currently designated as “Unzoned Spartanburg County,” had an application from Dream Finders Homes to change the zoning to MD, Medium Density Residential. The property owners also sought annexation into the City.

Rezoning Request along Country Club Road

The second request presented to the Planning Commission involved a property along Country Club Road, near the intersection of North Main Street. The applicant, Site Design, Inc, proposed the rezoning of the property from SN, Suburban Neighborhood, to TN, Traditional Neighborhood.

During the meeting, Lorriane Taylor, a concerned resident, shared her thoughts on the proposed changes along Country Club Road. She expressed, “It would be a positive thing if it was improved in a way that would enhance the area, but as it stands, they are not really concerned with that. They are just taking advantage of a renter’s market and charging people a lot of money for a little bit of home.”

Commission’s Decision: Denial of Requests

Following careful deliberation, the Planning Commission decided to deny both requests. For the property near Abner Creek Road, commissioners cited the already high density in the area as a key factor in their decision. As for the property along Country Club Road, reasons for denial included concerns about potential traffic issues that could arise from the proposed rezoning.

Despite the denial of these requests, the Planning Commission’s decisions reflect a commitment to thoughtful urban planning and consideration of the community’s best interests.
