Greenville to Welcome New Elementary School in 2025

Greenville, S.C. – A new elementary school, Reedy Laurel Elementary School, is set to open its doors in August 2025, according to the Greenville County Schools (GCS). The decision comes as part of a student assignment plan that aims to accommodate the growing population in the area.

The school is expected to serve approximately 600 students in its first year, catering to grades K5 through 2nd grade. Plans are in place to enhance the school incrementally by adding one grade each academic year, with the school reaching full capacity of all six grade levels by the 2028-2029 school year.

The district addresses the assignment of about 900 students from existing schools to Reedy Laurel and other local schools. This reallocation is driven by a need to optimize building capacity, improve transportation, and reduce the distance between homes and schools. Additionally, the plan will eliminate 18 attendance islands, which refer to areas not connected to a school’s main attendance zone.

Families who are directly impacted by these changes will receive personalized communication from the school district. The district also intends to host a series of public meetings to engage with parents and community members. These meetings will allow for feedback and provide an avenue for questions regarding the new plans.
