Greenville Hosts Exciting Weekend of Festivities, Art, and Awareness

Greenville Welcomes a Colorful Weekend

Hello, Greenville! Are you ready for a weekend filled with fun, community spirit, and awareness-raising activities? As we soak up a delightful mix of clouds and sunshine, the weather is shaping up to be just perfect for some local events. With a high around 85°F and light north-northwest winds, it’s the ideal time to grab your favorite yellow dress and dive into the festivities.

Yellow Dress Run with the Hash House Harriers

This Saturday, September 7, from 1 to 7 p.m., head over to Pendrick’s Park for the exciting fourth annual Upstate Hash House Harriers Yellow Dress Run and pub crawl! For just $17, you can join in the fun while raising awareness for an incredibly important cause.

The Hash House Harriers, an international group of running enthusiasts, have been mixing fun and philanthropy since 1998 in our area. This year, they’ve teamed up with Walt’s Waltz, a local grassroots organization founded by Susan Crooks to honor her son Walt, who tragically lost his life. Together, they are aiming to shed light on suicide prevention and support resources available for those in need.

Participants will get a specially hand-designed string bag featuring the Walt’s Waltz butterfly. Inside, you’ll find tokens of appreciation and crucial information on suicide prevention. Whether you’re a runner or prefer strolling, everyone is welcome to join the group near The Velo Fellow for a day filled with laughs, drinks, and camaraderie.

The route kicks off and wraps up at The Velo Fellow, where an after-party awaits. Just remember, everyone attending must be over 21, and don’t forget your cash for refreshments along the way!

Art and Culture Around Every Corner

While you’re out and about, why not check out the “Soul in Bloom” Exhibition by the talented Sunny Mullarkey at Spoonbill Gallery? Starting from September 6 through 28, this exhibition is free to attend and showcases Mullarkey’s enchanting paintings that capture the wonders of nature through fresh eyes. Join the artist for a special reception on the opening night, filled with inspiration and creativity.

Step Back in Time at the Upstate Renaissance Faire

For those looking to escape into a realm of fantasy, the Upstate Renaissance Faire at Greer City Park is perfect for you! The festivities kicked off on September 6 and continue until September 7, with activities for all ages. From knights to pirates, jesters to minstrels, it’s a real treat where you can cheer for knights in action and even try your hand at some medieval competitions. Admission is free, but special questing experiences will require tickets.

Musical Delights with the Greenville Concert Band

Music lovers, rejoice! This weekend, the Greenville Concert Band will take you on a delightful auditory journey. With a free performance on Saturday, September 7 at White Oak Baptist Church Gymnasium at 2 p.m., and an outdoor performance at NOMA Square on Sunday, September 8 at 3 p.m., it’s a lovely way to wind down your weekend filled with favorites from past seasons.

Don’t Miss the Canvas Sky Circus!

And if you’re in the mood for some dazzling spectacle, the Hideaway Circus at Barefoot Acres is set for September 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. Their Canvas Sky show promises to be a captivating experience that explores themes of self-acceptance under the stars. Tickets range from $20 to $65, so make sure to grab yours soon!

Conclusion

So there you have it, Greenville! This weekend is bursting at the seams with opportunities to connect with your community, support meaningful causes, and have some good old-fashioned fun. With a touch of cloud cover and a sprinkle of sunshine, it’s all set for a fantastic few days. Whether you’re dressing up in yellow for the run or wandering through the Renaissance faire, enjoy making memories with family and friends. Make sure to take advantage of everything our vibrant city has to offer!
