Greenville Triumph SC Strengthens Ownership Team with Three Key Additions

In a significant expansion of the ownership team, Greenville Pro Soccer, which manages Greenville Triumph SC and Greenville Liberty, has welcomed three new faces to its ranks. Rick Pennell, Wallace Cheves, and Jim Casey are the latest additions to the team, further reinforcing the organization’s commitment to excellence both on the field and in the boardroom.

New Owners Bring Wealth of Experience

The triumvirate of Pennell, Cheves, and Casey come with impressive resumes, boasting a breadth of knowledge and experience in their respective fields. Joe Erwin, chairman and owner of Greenville Triumph SC, expressed in a statement, “We are thrilled to have Rick, Wallace, and Jim join our team, and deeply appreciate the breadth of their knowledge, experience, and business acumen. Their addition marks a significant step forward for the organization.”

Spell out of Profiles

Rick Pennell is currently the part-owner and president/CEO of Metromont Corp., where he manages a large team of over 1,500 associates across six manufacturing facilities. His vast experience in overarching management and leadership will likely prove valuable to the Triumph and Liberty teams.

Wallace Cheves, the founder of Skyboat Gaming and principal of Cheves Capital, brings to the table skills honed from careers in real estate, beverage, and gaming industries. His experience and dexterity in navigating through diverse business spheres will likely enrich the strategic planning and execution of the soccer teams.

Completing the trio is Jim Casey, the co-head of global investment banking at J.P. Morgan. In his current role, Casey oversees the running of corporate debt businesses, showcasing his expertise in the financial sector. Besides this, Casey’s evident passion for sports magnifies his suitability to contribute to the ownership team.

New and Existing Ownership Team

Pennell, Cheves, and Casey join the existing owners, namely Joe Erwin, Gretchen Erwin, William M. Webster IV, Doug Erwin, and Shannon Wilbanks. The Greenville Triumph SC, part of the USL League One, and Greenville Liberty, part of the pre-professional USL W League, will undoubtedly benefit from the new influx of diverse insights and perspectives.

As Greenville Triumph SC continues to make strides in the sporting world, the strengthened ownership team signals an exciting chapter ahead. With an impressive repertoire of skills and experiences now within its ranks, the Triumph and Liberty teams are set to advance both on and off the field.
