The Greenville Theatre will wrap up its 98th season with a lively production of “Escape to Margaritaville,” set to hit the stage in downtown Greenville starting May 31. The musical, featuring a medley of Jimmy Buffet’s iconic songs like “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” follows the story of two individuals—one who is deeply entrenched in their career and another who lives by the motto “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.”
Director of the show, Ashley Robinson, shared her personal connection to Jimmy Buffet’s music, stating, “Jimmy Buffet was my father’s favorite artist, so these songs are the first tunes that wafted into my consciousness. I think people sometimes forget not only how entertaining and witty his music is, but also how sophisticated and poignant. This show is the escape and the coming together we all need right now. Buffet’s music does that. He brings people together and celebrates humanity.”
The production is choreographed by Michael Cherry and features a talented cast including Jacob Seay, Jamie Ann Walters, Neel Patrick Edwards, Celia Blitzer, Stan Peal, Kristofer Parker, and Bev Clowney.
“Escape to Margaritaville” will run on select dates from May 31 to June 23. Showtimes are scheduled for May 31-June 1, June 7-8, June 14-15, and June 21-22 at 8 p.m., with additional matinee shows on June 2, June 9, June 16, and June 23 at 3 p.m. Tickets are priced at $40 for adults, $38 for seniors or veterans, and $20 for students.
Starting May 13, tickets can be purchased online at greenvilletheatre.org or by calling the box office at 864-233-6238.
“Escape to Margaritaville” promises to be a colorful and uplifting conclusion to the Greenville Theatre’s 98th season. With a blend of Buffet’s classic tunes and a heartwarming storyline, audiences can expect a performance that will transport them to a carefree and joyful place, even if just for a few hours.
