Greenville Theatre Unveils Magical Production of “Anastasia”
On a gray November day that might have weighed heavily on spirits, the Greenville Theatre was anything but dull. A buzz of activity filled the air as some of the cast and crew of the much-anticipated production of “Anastasia” prepared for a promotional photoshoot. The theatre’s upcoming show, which tells the captivating story of Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov, promises a blend of history and fantasy that is hard to resist.
A Glimpse Behind the Scenes
Under the bright lights, the show’s two leads, Adell Ehrhorn and Andrew Anderson, showcased their stunning costumes while striking poses for the camera. Yet, it was clear that all the glamour and magic you see on stage is only possible through hours of hard work behind the scenes. From ensuring costumes look just right to perfecting every detail on the actors, the behind-the-scenes team worked tirelessly.
The costume manager, Thomas Brooks, was spot on adjusting Ehrhorn’s crown repeatedly, ensuring every detail was just so. Meanwhile, the talented makeup artist, Paul David, made sure that Ehrhorn looked flawless, applying lipstick and powder to combat the challenges of wearing heavy wigs and historical attire in a studio setting. “One of the beauties of theater is the sense of magic we create as artists,” said Max Quinlan, the theatre’s producing artistic director, capturing the essence of what live performance is all about.
The Story of “Anastasia”
“Anastasia” draws inspiration from the beloved 1997 animated Disney film and is set against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution in the early 20th century. The production captures Anastasia’s poignant journey as she struggles to rediscover her identity amidst the chaos and turmoil of her time. Showcasing themes of hope and perseverance, it speaks to anyone who has ever felt lost or in search of belonging.
Catching the Perfect Shot
During the shoot, Quinlan creatively directed the actors on how to pose and express emotions that would resonate with the audience, emphasizing authenticity even in posed situations. Local photographer Will Crooks and marketing director Jamie Walters played crucial roles in capturing the magic, ensuring the leads hit their marks perfectly.
“And Andrew, for this action,” Quinlan instructed, highlighting the dynamic movements they wanted to convey. “It’s almost like you’re breathing will into her,” he added, bringing the scene to life.
The Heart of Theater
As the photoshoot progressed, it became evident just how much effort goes into each production. “It takes so much time and energy and heart,” Quinlan explained. “Building a set, creating costumes, designing the stage, and pulling all of these storytelling elements together demands dedication.” He emphasized that the goal is for the audience to experience pure magic, leaving them spellbound while being completely unaware of the hard work that went on behind the curtain.
