Greenville Celebrates Teacher of the Year
In Taylors, a small town within Greenville County, the excitement was palpable as Chelsey Troutman was named the 2024-25 Teacher of the Year for Greenville County Schools. This honor was awarded during a celebration event held on August 6, recognizing her hard work as a third-grade teacher at Brushy Creek Elementary School.
A Year of Achievements
The selection process for this prestigious title kicked off last fall when each school in the district chose its own Teacher of the Year. Following that, the applications were carefully reviewed by a selection committee before revealing the winners. Chelsey was excited to receive this recognition, stating it reflects her dedication to her students and the greater school community.
The event also celebrated other outstanding educators, including the runners-up for the 2024-25 Teacher of the Year. Bryan Raeckelboom, a building-construction instructor from Golden Strip Career Center, took the first runner-up spot, while Karla Cannon, a Spanish teacher at Riverside High School, was the second runner-up. The third runner-up title went to Frances McNeely, a math teacher at Wade Hampton High School.
Recognizing New Talent
In addition to the Teacher of the Year, the school district honored the First Class Teachers and Emerging Teachers of the Year. The First Class Teachers of the 2024-25 school year are Megan Stanton, a third-grade teacher at Summit Drive Elementary School, and Will Cooper, an English teacher at Mauldin High School. The Emerging Teachers of the Year include Eliza Morgan, a first-grade teacher at Lake Forest Elementary School, and Annie Miller, a Spanish teacher at Greer High School.
Community Recognition
Superintendent Burke Royster expressed gratitude to all the dedicated teachers in the district during the ceremony, stating that their commitment makes a significant difference in the lives of students. The recognition of these outstanding educators highlights the importance of teaching and the impact it has on the community.
