The Greenville County Schools District said a teacher has been charged for bringing a gun to school on Tuesday. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said an investigation was initiated at Tanglewood Middle School after the school resource officer was made aware of talk among students that a teacher had a gun in his bag. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that 25-year-old Shavar Stephenson was in possession.
According to officials, Stephenson, a 7th-grade teacher, was charged with possessing a firearm on school property and taken to the Greenville County Detention Center, where he remains on a $5,000 bond. The district said Stephenson is no longer employed with Greenville County Schools.
Tanglewood Middle School is where tragedy hit in March of 2022 when a 12-year-old student was shot and killed inside the school by a fellow classmate.
