Greenville, S.C. – School Districts Announce Changes After Storm Damage
In the wake of a severe storm that recently swept through the Upstate of South Carolina, school districts are making important adjustments for the upcoming week. After assessing damage, several districts have provided updates about school operations for Monday, September 30.
Greenville County Schools Closed
Greenville County Schools (GCS) announced that it will be closed on Monday, September 30, and Tuesday, October 1. The district cited widespread power and internet outages as significant factors in their decision to cancel classes. Since not all schools are equipped for eLearning, GCS confirmed that there will be no online classes during this period. Further announcements regarding the plan for Wednesday will be made soon.
Anderson County Schools To Hold eLearning
In contrast, all Anderson County school districts will observe an eLearning Day on Monday. Officials emphasized that they will offer flexibility to meet eLearning requirements, acknowledging that many families remain without power or internet access.
Pickens and Spartanburg Counties Assess Damage
Both the Pickens County School District and the Spartanburg County School District Two are currently assessing damage at their facilities. They intend to issue statements with further details about their plans as soon as they can. Spartanburg County School District One has also announced closures for both Monday and Tuesday due to the storm’s effects, noting that there will be no e-learning requirements during this period.
Greenwood County on Fall Break
Greenwood County School District 50 is on fall break, so there are no changes for regular classes, but alterations to the athletic schedule may be coming soon.

As the community focuses on recovery, Spartanburg County School District Two stated, “We hope to make a decision as early as possible. Right now, I believe everyone’s focus is on providing the necessities for their families and recovery from the storm’s damage.”
