Polls in Greenville, SC, steady all day as GOP voter enthusiasm leans towards Trump

Greenville, S.C. – As South Carolina held the first-in-the-South primary election Saturday, Feb. 24, News 13 was in Greenville talking to voters at various polling locations to get a feel for voter turnout and who they were standing behind — former President Donald Trump or former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

Steady Turnout and Overwhelming Trump Support

Saturday, Feb. 24, a few hours before the polls closed, the chair of the Greenville County Republican Party, Yvonne Julian, stated that voter turnout was steady all day. Most people coming into the headquarters were asking for Trump signs, posters, and flags, indicating strong support for the former president over GOP opponent Nikki Haley.

Clear Preference for Trump Among Voters

Despite Nikki Haley’s ties to South Carolina as a former governor, voters expressed overwhelming support for Donald Trump throughout the day. South Carolina voter Emily Holland highlighted discrepancies in Haley’s political stances, stating, “I’ve gone online and watched a lot of videos where she had said one thing as governor and another thing during her race. I know it’s politics, but that does bother me.”

Another voter, Brayden Holland, acknowledged Haley’s accomplishments as governor but expressed doubt about her chances in the election. “I just don’t think that she has the same chance that other candidates have in winning in the actual election,” Brayden said.

Smooth Voting Process in Greenville County

Despite some voters facing challenges in locating their polling places due to election consolidation, overall, the voting process in Greenville County went smoothly. Polls opened at 7 a.m., and the turnout remained consistent throughout the day.

Historical Success in Choosing Nominees

Republican voters in South Carolina have a near-perfect record when it comes to selecting the candidate who ultimately becomes the party’s nominee. Donald Trump’s victory in the primary further solidifies this trend.

Conclusion

With steady voter turnout and overwhelming support for Donald Trump evident throughout the day, the South Carolina Primary Election showcased a clear preference among GOP voters in Greenville for the former president. Despite Nikki Haley’s strong ties to the state, Trump’s victory in the primary underlines his continued significance within the Republican Party.
