Greenville County is buzzing with excitement as Samaritan Biologics, a burgeoning medical technology company, has unveiled plans to expand its operations in the area! With a whopping $5 million investment, the company anticipates creating 85 brand-new jobs for local residents, a move that could have a significant impact on the local economy.
Founded in 2019, Samaritan Biologics has made quite the name for itself in the healthcare realm. The company specializes in developing, manufacturing, and distributing human amniotic allograft products that are crucial for wound care and various surgical applications. Talk about making a difference! Currently, they operate a research and education facility at the Clemson University Biomedical Engineering Innovation Campus (CUBEInC), right here in Greenville, showcasing their commitment to medical innovation.
The new manufacturing facility will be located in the emerging Flex Lab One on the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) campus. Spanning 11,000 square feet, this place is set to feature five clean rooms dedicated to the precise and careful processing of human cellular tissue products. With operations slated to kick off in January 2025, the excitement in the air is palpable!
The company’s COO and Managing Partner, Jerry Chang, expressed his enthusiasm, emphasizing how Greenville has transformed into a vibrant region characterized by research, businesses, and a young, innovative workforce. He stated, “Samaritan Biologics recognizes that Greenville, S.C. has evolved into a region fueled by research, businesses, and a smart, young, and creative workforce that not only thrives on innovation but is also a catalyst for it.”
It’s clear that Samaritan Biologics isn’t just about medical breakthroughs but is also committed to fostering economic growth. According to Chang, their focus on “cutting-edge research and advanced therapies” promises to deliver new hope for healing in the community while attracting top-tier talent to South Carolina. He added, “With the support of South Carolina and Greenville County, this commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation will bring transformative care to patients and our communities.”
Supporting these ambitious plans, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project. Additionally, they’ve awarded a $100,000 Set-Aside grant to assist Greenville County with the costs of the essential building improvements needed for this state-of-the-art facility. It’s fantastic to see local government backing such positive progress!
