Get ready to dive into a winter wonderland right in the heart of Greenville! For the second time in just four years, the Upcountry History Museum is rolling out the red carpet for “White Christmas — The Exhibition.” This delightful showcase opens anew, inviting residents and visitors alike to bask in the nostalgia of the beloved 1954 holiday classic, all while enjoying the season’s festivities.
“White Christmas — The Exhibition” isn’t just another display; it’s a journey through the magical world of the holiday film, featuring an impressive array of over 60 props, costumes, and memorabilia borrowed from the charming Rosemary Clooney House located in Augusta, Kentucky. This exhibition initially had its debut during the *COVID-19* pandemic, a time when many events were put on hold. Now, with the world opening up, the museum is eager to share this joyful experience in a full swing, non-pandemic environment.
Heather French Henry, representing the Rosemary Clooney House, shared her thoughts, saying, “When they saw the general response, they wanted to bring it back in a non-pandemic year.” Isn’t that just wonderful? The exhibition promises to bring back fond memories for many and create new ones for the younger generation.
The pieces on display are not just random items; they hold historical significance and a unique connection to the film’s stars, such as Rosemary Clooney, Bing Crosby, Vera-Ellen, and Danny Kaye. Visitors will be thrilled to see iconic pieces like the famous “Sisters” dresses and fans, but it gets even better. “We continue to add pieces to the exhibit as we find them,” Henry noted.
How exciting is that? Over the years, the Rosemary Clooney House has actively searched for rare items from the movie, and now they have even secured a stunning pair of shoes once worn by Vera-Ellen during the “Abraham” number. And if you’re curious about the behind-the-scenes magic, look out for items belonging to Robert Alton, the film’s choreographer.
In addition to this treat for film buffs and holiday enthusiasts, the Upcountry History Museum is also giving back to the community. During the exhibition’s run, the museum will participate in *Operation Waverly*, an initiative launched by the Rosemary Clooney House. This program aims to support local veterans’ organizations by raising funds to provide gift cards for essentials such as gas and food, as well as fun family experiences for veterans in the area. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the holidays while also lending a helping hand to those who have served our country.
“White Christmas — The Exhibition” will be on display through February 2, 2025, giving everyone plenty of time to visit and enjoy the festivities. Admission to this enchanting exhibit remains open to the public, so gather your family and friends and immerse yourself in the magic of this timeless classic!
If you’re itching for more information, don’t hesitate to call the museum at 864-467-3100 or simply visit their website at upcountryhistory.org. Make the most of this holiday season by stepping back in time and reliving the joy of “White Christmas.” Happy holidays, Greenville!
