Exciting Developments Ahead: Greenville to Build New Skatepark and Pump Track!

Skatepark Construction Progress

Exciting Community Developments in Greenville: A Skatepark and Pump Track on the Horizon!

Hey there, Greenville residents! 🎉 It seems like exciting things are on the way for our beloved city, especially for those of you who love to skate and ride. City officials are taking big steps towards the development of a fantastic skatepark and pump track right next to the Greenville Downtown Airport! How cool is that?

Where’s This Amazing Park Going?

The wheel park is set to be constructed on a generous 10-acre site located at 425 Airport Road. Just picture it: a place where you can flip, spin, and glide alongside your friends, enjoying the fresh air while showing off your skills. It’s like a dream come true for local skaters and bikers alike!

What’s Happening Behind the Scenes?

The team at the city has been hard at work over the past year, developing a lease agreement with the Greenville Airport Commission to move forward with this project. Seems like they really want to make this happen! And the next big step is on the horizon: Greenville City Council is set to officially vote on the ground lease agreement for the property on September 9. If you’re curious about the outcome—or just want to support the cause—mark your calendars for 5:30 p.m. at Greenville City Hall.

How Will it Be Funded?

Now, you might be wondering how the city plans to pay for this awesome new addition. Well, the city has it all figured out! They plan to offset the annual $40,000 rental fee for the property by utilizing the airport’s annual stormwater fee. Plus, they will be transferring funding from the hospitality fund for all expenses through the parks, recreation, and tourism department’s operating account. Sounds like a smart move to us!

More Changes in the City!

But wait, there’s more news coming your way. Along with the exciting skateboard park, the city is also planning to sell the site of the Greenville City Municipal Court, located at 426 N. Main St.. On that same day, the council will vote on a first reading of an ordinance to give the green light for the sale. Interested parties, like 426 N. Main, LLC, plan to purchase this 2.66-acre site for a whopping $4 million to construct two multi-story, Class A mixed-use buildings.

Where Will the Court Go?

So, where is the municipal court moving to? Great question! The court will be relocating to the city’s new Public Safety Complex on Halton Road. With the sale of the current property, the city aims to use the funds to offset the construction costs for this new complex. Talk about using our resources wisely!

Get Involved!

Greenville is clearly on the move! Whether you’re excited about the upcoming skatepark and pump track or the new developments on Main Street, there’s so much happening in our community. Make sure to stay updated, attend city meetings, and get involved in discussions. Your voice matters! 😊

So, let’s keep our fingers crossed for the vote on September 9 and look forward to all the fun and activities that these new parks will bring to Greenville!
